Rediscovering Himself Through Theater

When Federico arrived in Miami with his wife and two children, he was prepared for change—but not for the emotional challenges that would come with it. Amid the stress of adapting to a new country, his marriage ended in divorce. Suddenly, he found himself starting over as a single father, searching for his own identity in this new chapter of his life.

His first encounter with IMAGO POR LAS ARTES came in 2021 when he was looking for weekend activities for his children. He enrolled them in art classes, hoping to give them a sense of stability and creativity. But soon, he realized IMAGO wasn't just a space for kids—there were also programs for adults. When he learned about the Taller Teatro Montaje, something clicked. Theater had fascinated him since his teenage years, and this felt like an opportunity to reconnect with that part of himself.

At that moment, he was asking himself a question so many face after a life-changing event:

"Who am I now?"

He discovered that the answer came through playing different roles on stage. With each character he studied, he had to explore emotions, motivations, and personal struggles—and in doing so, he started asking himself the same questions: Why do I feel this way? How do I react to challenges? What do I truly want? Theater became a mirror, a safe space where he could explore his identity without judgment.

More than an artistic outlet, the program gave him purpose. It was the one place where, for a few hours, he didn't have to worry about anything but his performance.

"The only thing that matters is learning your lines and pulling together as a group to put on the best show possible," he says. "No judgment, just commitment and support."

One of his biggest challenges came when he was cast in the role of a woman in one of the plays. He wasn't sure how his friends and family would react. But the experience taught him the power of stepping outside his comfort zone, seeing the world from a new perspective, and embracing his theater community's unconditional support.

Through the Taller Teatro Montaje, Federico found more than an escape—he found a family. Even though his castmates weren't aware of everything he was going through, he felt their presence, encouragement, and belief in him. Teatro Montaje became his safe haven, a place where he could heal, grow, and rediscover his confidence.

Now, theater is no longer just a hobby to pass the time. It has become a true passion—and possibly a second career. He loves acting, working backstage, and constantly looking for the next artistic challenge. His journey has also influenced his children, who are now participating in the Miami Children's Storytelling Festival for the second year.

Today, Federico gives back to IMAGO POR LAS ARTES as a volunteer, always willing to lend a hand whenever needed. He believes spaces like these—where creativity is accessible, self-expression is encouraged, and personal growth is possible—are essential in today's society.
