IxLA 12x12 Collage International Juried Show

IMAGO POR LAS ARTES is proud to present its first-ever IxLA 12x12 International Juried Show — a bold initiative designed to spotlight talent in the visual arts and elevate collage as a contemporary form of expression.

 

This global call welcomes artists aged 18 and over to submit original works and take part in a highly selective curatorial process culminating in a powerful public exhibition, where three winners will be awarded cash prizes.

The IxLA 12x12 Collage International Juried Show invites -emergent or established- artists to explore the boundaries of creativity through the intimate yet impactful format of 12” x 12” collage. It’s more than a show — it’s a celebration of storytelling through texture, layering, and imagination.

IxLA 12x12 Collage International Juried Show Stages

Open Call: May 1, 2025

Submission period: May 15 to August 30, 2025 (online application)

One-Time Application Fee: $50 + 3.5% processing fee per piece (nonrefundable) up to 3 pieces.

 

Jury deliberation: September 15, 2025

Selected Artist notification: September 16, 2025 (via email) + publication on the IXLA website

Pieces shipping and delivery: from September 25 to October 10, 2025 (Artists are responsible for shipping/delivery costs, unless previously agreed upon with the organization.) 

 

Award ceremony & Exhibition Grand Opening: November 15, 2025, at IMAGO (4028 SW 57th Ave., South Miami, FL 33155). The exhibition will remain open through January 2026.

Artwork pickup or return: Artists must retrieve their works within 10 days after the exhibition closes (artists are responsible for return shipping costs unless previously agreed upon with the organization). Neither IMAGO nor IMAGO POR LAS ARTES is responsible for unclaimed works. If not retrieved in time, the organization may dispose of the artwork at its discretion (e.g., donation, storage, or other use).

Jury

Sophie Bonet – Chief Curator, The Frank Art Gallery (United States)

Sophie Bonet is a curator who sees exhibitions as living spaces—sites of dialogue, memory, and transformation. Based in South Florida, her work is rooted in fine arts and cultural anthropology, blending research with a responsive approach to process-based, collaborative, transdisciplinary practices. She has contributed to major institutions like the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA), and the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami, where she led exhibition production and bridged meaningful collaborations between artists and institutions. Her curatorial approach is socially engaged, and research-driven—fueled by her passion for contemporary social movements, sustainable artistic practices, and cultural dialogue. Sophie currently serves as Chief Curator at The Frank C. Ortis Gallery in Pembroke Pines, Florida, developing and leading innovative curatorial programs and exhibitions. She is an active member of IKT (International Association of Curators), connecting her to a global network of art professionals.

Federica Palomero – Curator and art historian
(Spain)

Federica Palomero, historiadora de arte. Posee una licenciatura y una maestría en Historia del Arte, Université de Toulouse-Le-Mirail, Francia, 1975, y un magíster en Literatura Latinoamericana, Universidad Simón Bolívar, Caracas, 2005. Fue jefe de la Biblioteca del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas, (1978-1983). Trabajó en el Museo de Bellas Artes, Caracas, (1985-2001) donde ejerció varios cargos: asistente a la Dirección, curadora de Arte Latinoamericano, coordinadora de Proyectos Especiales (1992-1996), jefe de las Curadurías de Pintura y Escultura (1996-2001). Fue directora de Museología, Museo Alejandro Otero, Caracas, y directora ejecutiva del Museo Sefardí, Caracas. Como docente ha dictado seminarios en la Universidad Central de Venezuela y en la Escuela Superior de Artes Plásticas, Caracas. Como curadora, ha realizado más de 40 exposiciones. Su campo de estudio es el arte latinoamericano, sobre el que ha escrito varios ensayos y libros. Reside en Madrid.

Nathan Timpano – Chair, Department of Art & Art History, University of Miami (United States)​

Nathan J. Timpano is the Chair of the Department of Art and Art History and Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Miami. His research focuses on modern European art and visual culture (1789–1945), with a particular emphasis on German and Austrian Symbolism and Expressionism. His first book explores how Viennese artists such as Kokoschka and Schiele used the body as an aesthetic metaphor in turn-of-the-century Vienna. His new project investigates the figure of the doll (both unsettling and charming) in German modern art. He has received fellowships from institutions such as the Getty Research Institute, Fulbright, the Mellon Foundation, and the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to UM, he was a Curatorial Fellow at the Harvard Art Museums. He is currently also working as a guest curator at the Lowe Art Museum.

​The jury, appointed by IMAGO POR LAS ARTES, will evaluate the works based on:

  • Originality

  • Technical quality

  • Visual impact

  • Conceptual relevance

Please note that the jury's decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

Awards

The jury will grant the following prizes:

  • 🥇 First Prize: $1,000 (USD) + certificate

  • 🥈 Second Prize: $500 (USD) + certificate

  • 🥉 Third Prize: $250 (USD) + certificate

 

🎖️ Honorable mentions may be awarded at the jury’s discretion. These recognitions do not include monetary compensation but will be accompanied by a certificate.

Rules and Guidelines

Who can participate?
  • ​​Participation is open to artists aged 18 and older of any nationality, regardless of experience or professional background, with original and unpublished works created using collage techniques. Both emerging and established artists are welcome to apply.

  • Each artist may submit up to three (3) artworks created using collage techniques, with no thematic restrictions.

  • We will allow only one application per artist.

How to apply

Before applying, please read carefully the rules and important information shared here:

  1. Process the application fee payment. Please note that the cost is $50 + a 3.5% processing fee per piece (non-refundable), with a limit of up to three pieces.​ The application fee is nonrefundable.

  2. After submitting payment, you will receive an email with a link to the application.

  3. Only one application per artist.

  4. Fill out the application

  5. Documents to be uploaded in the application:

    • Brief artistic résumé (maximum 800 words)​

    • Please submit high-resolution photographs of the artworks, at least 300 dpi, in JPG or PNG format. The images must be well-lit (preferably natural indirect light or uniform artificial light) and free of shadows or reflections. If the artwork includes volumetric or textured elements, it is recommended that you submit additional images from different angles.

      • Before uploading your piece/pieces' picture, identify each image with your name as shown in the application and the number of your piece, so we know who it belongs to. If your piece has different pictures, identify them also with letters a, b, c, etc. For example: Jane Doe piece 1; or, Jane Doe piece 1a, Jane Doe piece 1b, and so on.​
